Room 11 - States of Matter learning

Here is Room 11's video about States of Matter. This was our focus for our science learning in Term 3. As a class, we decided to create a video about facts of states of matter.

Listen carefully and hope you learn a thing or two about the 3 main states of matter - Liquid, Solid and Gas.

First Day of Term 4!

After a good 2 week break, we got straight into it! This morning we had a great discussion about GIVING IT OUR ALL this term. We want to finish this year off on a positive high, so we decided to set some expectations for ourselves.

Check out some of our expectation posters for Term 4!

Tw Wiki o Te Reo Maori 2019

In acknowledgement of Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori, Room 11 looked at a couple of Maori Waiata. We also created our own Pepeha, using a template Miss Tupou provided us with.

We celebrate all the language weeks in our class. Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori is important to us because we want to acknowledge the people of the land we live on. Miss Tupou talks about the importance of respecting TANGATA WHENUA and contributing to Aotearoa in a positive way.

Our way of showing respect is to learn the language, through singing and our Pepeha. Check it out!

#StayPositive

This morning we decided our class needed a REBOOT and a REMINDER of why being POSITIVE is important.
Each of us wrote positive messages to keep us going and to stay motivated. Check out some of our inspirational writing!

Reading with Miss Kelly...

We've been very fortunate to have a student teacher this term. Miss Kelly took our NOVELS group (14-15years) for Reading. Our novel study this term is Harry Potter and the philosophers stone.

Our WALT for this lesson was: Use context and images to define unknown words.

We had an awesome time learning new vocabulary, discussing our thoughts of the extract we were given and adding new understanding to what we read.

Thanks Miss Kelly.

GTS Science Fair

Today, Room 11 and the rest of Glen Taylor had the opportunity to go into each class and check out their SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS. We enjoyed the learning about the science experiments in each classroom.

Our class's science focus was STATES OF MATTER. We worked in groups to conduct different experiments that exemplifies the processes of science we experienced. We had fun and we were proud of how everything turned out.

States of Matter

This week, Room 11 have been looking at the 3 main states of matter. We are learning about it so that when we conduct our experiments, we are able to explain the processes and chemical reactions that occur. It's been great new learning for most of us.

Today, we worked in groups to identify the properties of the 3 states of matter of SOLIDS, LIQUIDS AND GAS. The properties refer to the SHAPE, VOLUME, ARRANGEMENTS and INTERACTION of particles in matter.

Here are some photos of our learning.

Cycle Safety Programme

In Week 6 - the Senior Syndicate participated in a cycle safety programme. The students learnt to put on the helmet the right way, identified safety procedures about cycling and enjoyed riding around the block. Each class were allocated 5 blocks = One day and a half for cycling.

Shout out to Auckland Transport!

Senior School CAMP!

Last week, GTS Senior school was out on Camp. We spent a whole week at KAWAU ISLAND at Camp Bentzon. The students got to experience activities such as Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Sailing, Kayaking and Orienteering.
On Thursday, the whole school went on a 3-4 hour bush-walk into the woods. It was tiring, exhausting but breath-taking at the same time.

Art Exhibition on way!

"Don't forget your roots" - is Room 11's focus for the GTS Art Exhibition this year. This idea was developed by the students. The meaning behind it is "connection back to your motherland".

Students are making/creating traditional clothing items, performance items etc that connects them back to where their families are from.

Check out the photos!

Breakers Trip 2019

Today, 40 lucky students were selected to attend a training day with the NZ Breakers basketball team in North Shore.

This training session was postponed from 2018. It was a cool experience because this is our National team and they trained us some of the skills they use on the court.

Thanks Mr Herlihy for the experience.

2019 is here! #TeamBuilding

Hey Everyone,

Wow! Can you believe it's 2019 already? In Room 11, we decided it was important for our class to start the year by building positive relationships with one another. Team Building was the way to go.

Today we the spaghetti and marshmallow tower activity. The purpose of this activity was to see who could build the tallest and most stable tower using 20 marshmallows and a packet of spaghetti.

Here are some photos from the day!
