Tongan Language Week 2016

TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK 2016

September 5th - 9th 2016 marked the celebration of TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK in New Zealand. The theme for this year is 'Fakakoloa 'a Aotearoa 'aki 'a e Loto'i Tonga'.

In the duration of a week, Room 14 learnt close to 50 new Tongan phrases, including the Tongan Alphabet and a Hiva Faka-Tonga. To finish the week off, Room 13 joined us to make 'Otai (a Tongan summer beverage). This beverage was made using pineapple, mango, coconut, milk, water and a little bit of sugar.

Here is a video of students singing 'Oku 'ofa 'a e 'Otua 'iate au'.

Insurance Day at the Auckland University of Technology!!!!!

Insurance Day

Tuesday 6th September 10 Year 7&8 students (5 from Room 14) from Glen Taylor School were selected to participate in the Insurance Day programme. This was held at AUT and was hosted by the Young Enterprise Trust. The students were very fortunate and had the opportunity to learn of better ways to handle their money. Students were introduced to terms such as SAVINGS, SUM INSURED, TRANSACTIONS, DEPOSITS, EXPENSES, MORTGAGE, PREMIUM AND PAYMENTS.

At the end of the day. the students in the groups they were working in, presented a summary of what they learnt that day. The Judges were blown away and were very impressed. 7 out of 10 of Glen Taylor School students were the presenters and spoke with pride and confidence!

Bubblegum Dance Crew visits GTS!!!!! Yikes!!!!

So, on the 3rd day of Term 3, we were lucky enough to have one of NZ's best dance crews visit our school and perform for us. Bubblegum dance crew belongs to Palace dance studio's (NZ's most prominent dance studio). Not only did they blow us away with their moves but they were motivational. Their hard work was clearly evident and they were very inspiring. They were living proof that if you dream it, you can live it!

Bark NZ visits GTS

In Term 2, we had the privilege of having BARK NZ visit out school. Bark NZ is a registered charity dedicated to supporting our communities by providing education to children on how to be safe around, and have positive experiences with, dogs.

Below, we have our very own Mereem chosen as a volunteer to demonstrate how to act when a dog is close by.
